Fujifilm F100fd

Finally, I got myself a Fujifilm F100fd after doing some research and have been poisoned by it superb image quality. Yeah!!! I just bought it last weekend, still can't find a slot for out shooting. In the next couple weeks I will try to post some sample up.

Fujifilm F100fd visual tour: (Photos of the camera taken with the Sony Ericsson K800i)

The camera is quite weighty (no doubt in part due to the larger lens). However, the controls are fairly simple and the overall design feels intuitive and uncluttered.

The Image quality is very good with good colour, good skin tones, good detail and generally low noise. Red eye in photos was well detected and removed and focusing in low light was not a problem.

Its ISO-400 mode is functionally similar to the ISO-50 sensitivities on other cameras, and noise isn’t a problem until ISO-1600. Stick to ISO 800 or below if you want to avoid noise. That said, the F100fd makes a cleaner fist of it than most, its performance at ISO 1600 equivalent to some rivals at ISO 800, and ISO 3200 comparable to ISO 1600.

Continuous shooting is particularly impressive on the Fujifilm F100fd. There are 3-shot and 12-shot burst modes, each of which can either retain the final images in the series or have the user select which to keep, and there’s a slower continuous mode that retains all of the images in the batch.

I think overall this is one of the better compact digital cameras (that is pocket able) in its class. It will fit into a pocket and it takes a good photo in most situations. Color and exposure were both good, and helpful automatic tools like Face Detection, Dynamic Range, and the preset Scene modes proved useful and responsive to a variety of situations.

What I like:

  • Good image quality
  • Wide angle 5x optical zoom lens
  • Rapid focus in low light
  • Large high quality 2.7 inch screen.
  • 12 megapixels at ISO 100 shows potential
  • Includes face detection and anti-shake technologies
  • Low noise compared to the competition
  • Compact metal body
  • Good value for money
What I don't like:

  • High ISO modes of limited usefulness
  • Average battery life (less flash, around 200pcs)
  • Lacks manual aperture / shutter settings
The Fuji Finepix F100fd's major features include:
  • 12 Megapixels SuperCCD SR sensor.
  • 5X wide-angle optical zoom, equivalent to 28-140 in 35mm terms.
  • CCD-shift image stabilization.
  • ISO 100 to 3200 at full-resolution.
  • ISO 6400 and 12800 at 3 megapixels.
  • Auto ISO with maximum of 400, 800 or 1600.
  • Automatic, 100%, 200% and 400% dynamic range modes.
  • 1/1500-8s Shutter-speed range.
  • Fully automatic exposure.
  • Multi-segment, average and spot-metering.
  • Exposure compensation -2..+2 stops in 1/3 EV increments.
  • Automatic white-balance, preset white-balance and custom white-balance.
  • Normal, vivid and B&W color mode.
  • 2 FPS continuous shooting at 12 megapixels, keeps first or last 3 images.
  • 5 FPS continuous shooting at 3 megapixels, keeps first or last 12 images.
  • Unlimited 1 FPS continuous shooting at maximum resolution.
  • 2s or 10s self-timer.
  • 640x480 30 FPS movie-mode, up to 2 GB.
  • Built-in flash with auto, forced-on, forced-off, red-eye and slow-synchro modes.
  • 2.7” LCD 230K Pixels.
  • Lithium-ion battery operated.
  • Support for xD and SD-HC cards in single combined slot.
